Ceramabind™ 542 is an inorganic, water-dispersed, aluminum-phosphate binder that resists temperatures to 3000°F (1650°C) and is ideal for hardening and sealing porous refractories and thermal spray coatings. It is applied easily by brush, spatula, spray gun, or syringe and cures fully in one hour at 700°F or in-situ during equipment operation. The cured film provides a very dense, abrasion and scratch resistant seal that helps to extend the refractory life by reducing erosion and improving corrosion resistance.

Ceramabind 542 is also an inert, electrically and chemically resistant material that will not outgas in ultra high vacuum (UHV).

Typical applications for Ceramabind 542 include sealing thermal spray coatings used to insulate boiler tubes in power plants and corrosion protection and hardening of refractories used in rotary calciners. It is also used to protect graphite crucibles from oxidation in metallurgical applications.
